Arrest Records in Emmet County

Several agencies can create an Emmet County arrest record. The Emmet County Sheriff handles county law enforcement and jail intake. Petoskey Department of Public Safety, Harbor Springs Police, Mackinaw City Police, Little Traverse Bay Bands Tribal Police, Michigan State Police, and Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officers may also make arrests. The agency that wrote the incident report remains the first source for its narrative and complaint number. A city arrest does not move the police report into Sheriff custody merely because the person was booked at the county facility.

An arrest creates a chain, not one file. The police report states what officers allege occurred. Jail staff make a booking and custody record if the person is lodged. Finding a Recent Emmet Arrest

Emmet County has no official public inmate roster, arrest roster, or booking profile search. It also publishes no daily arrest log or booking blotter. The practical first question is whether the person may still be in county custody. Call the Correctional Facility at 231-347-2032 or use Michigan VINE. A VINE match can report current custody and support confidential notices for release, transfer, advanced or work release, and death. VINE is free, but it is a status network rather than a full booking file.

A missing VINE result does not prove that no arrest occurred. The person may have been released, held elsewhere, or not yet entered in the network.

Emmet County Arrest Lookups

Begin with the official source closest to the event. Keep the full name, date of birth, arrest date, incident location, and complaint number when available. These details reduce mistaken matches and help a records officer locate the right event. Complete an Emmet County arrest lookup in this order:

1. Call the Emmet County Correctional Facility or search Michigan VINE to check current county custody. Ask the jail about releasable booking information when status alone is not enough.
2. Request the incident or arrest report from the agency that created it. Sheriff reports use the county request channels, while Petoskey, Harbor Springs, tribal, state, and village reports remain with their respective agencies.
3. Search the 90th District Court in MiCOURT for a new misdemeanor case, arraignment, or felony preliminary matter. Search the 57th Circuit Court later if a felony was bound over, then confirm the official file through the Emmet County court case lookup.

Mail requests for a crash report require the accident request form, $2, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Fax is not accepted for that form. Other Sheriff police reports go through Emmet County Civil Counsel’s FOIA Office. A Michigan FOIA response is ordinarily due within five business days, with one permitted ten-business-day extension. That response deadline does not force an unfinished investigation report to become final or require release of exempt material.

It requires MiLogin and payment. A search can use a case or incident number, or driver’s-license data with date of birth and crash date. Emmet’s local complaint-number conversion is useful: a number written as 26-1234 becomes 2026001234 for a 2026 state-system search.

Parking-lot crashes and incidents not submitted to the state system still must be requested from the Emmet County Sheriff.

An arrest and a conviction are separate events. The arresting agency alleges conduct and the jail records custody. A conviction can exist only after a court finds guilt through a plea or verdict. Comparing the records prevents an incoming booking charge from being mistaken for the ultimate outcome.
